"As a society, we don’t feel that older adults are vulnerable when it comes to HIV. Few HIV prevention campaigns are geared towards older adults".

The following campaign was specifically designed for older adults to encourage conversations around sexual health with healthcare providers, researchers and other adults. This campaign features older adults for the purpose of encouraging meaningful discourse around the prevention of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and HIV. This campaign is part of an effort to raise awareness and provide resources to address the current reality that rates of syphilis, gonorrhea and chlamydia more than doubled among adults 55 years and older over the past 10 years and for those ages 65 and older, chlamydia cases more than tripled between 2010 and 2023, gonorrhea cases increased sixfold, and syphilis cases soared in numbers nearly ten fold according to information presented by the AMA. This campaign hopes to inform and educate. Enjoy exploring because sex never gets old!
For this campaign, we are following the language guidance from the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society (JAGS) adopted the American Medical Association Manual of Style including qualified recommendations for the language used to describe older people. For this campaign, we advocate for the use “older adult(s)” and “older person/people” as preferred terminology.
