Changes to CITI Program Access through the DAIDS Learning Portal
May 14, 2021
Upcoming changes will affect access to the CITI Program via the DAIDS-supported HIV/AIDS Clinical Trials Networks. These changes are described below and will take effect June 1, 2021. Please direct any questions to DAIDSSupportTeam@niaid.nih.gov.
What is the CITI Program?
The Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI Program) is a training provider that offers courses in ethics, research, meeting regulatory requirements, responsible conduct of research, and other relevant topics. Learners from the HIV/AIDS Clinical Trials Networks have been able to access the CITI Program’s courses for Human Subjects Protection (HSP) and Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and other trainings on the CITI site. This access was granted through the learner’s affiliation with the AIDS Clinical Trials Group (ACTG), HIV Prevention Trials Network (HPTN), HIV Vaccine Trials Network (HVTN), International Maternal Pediatric Adolescent AIDS Clinical Trials group (IMPAACT), Microbicide Trials Network (MTN), Office of HIV/AIDS Network Coordination (HANC), or Division of AIDS (DAIDS).
Upcoming Changes
- HIV/AIDS Clinical Trials Network (ACTG, HVTN, HPTN, IMPAACT, and MTN), DAIDS, and HANC subscriptions to the CITI Program will expire May 31, 2021. After this date, learners will no longer have access to CITI Program courses through their network, DAIDS, or HANC affiliation.
- These subscriptions will not be renewed beyond May 31, 2021 due to changes in the CITI Program’s pricing structure.
- This change will not affect access to CITI Program courses through affiliations with other organizations outside of the networks, DAIDS, and HANC, i.e. some universities.
- Learners will need to provide their site coordinator with a copy of their course completion certification(s). A tool to track course completions for all site staff is under consideration for development though in the DAIDS Learning Portal.
Learners who no longer have access to the CITI Program after June 1, 2021 have the following options to complete GCP and HSP training:
DAIDS GCP eLearning (English) Available on the DAIDS Learning Portal | ACRP HSP eLearning (English) Available on the DAIDS Learning Portal, registration is free |
NIAID GCP course (English) Available on the DAIDS Learning Portal starting June 4, 2021. Fulfills GCP and HSP requirements. | |
NIAID GCP course (Spanish and Portuguese) Available on the DAIDS Learning Portal starting August 2021. Fulfills GCP and HSP requirements. |
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
I have access to the CITI Program through another organization. How will these changes affect my access to CITI courses?
These changes will not impact CITI Program subscriptions outside of the HIV/AIDS Clinical Trials Networks, DAIDS, and HANC. Staff who have access to CITI courses through another institution may continue to use CITI GCP and CITI HSP courses to fulfill NIH training requirements for GCP and HSP.
Can I still retrieve my training certificates of completion for CITI courses after May 31, 2021?
Users can still log into their CITI account to retrieve certificates for courses already completed. Users may also find their GCP and HSP certificates of completion on the DAIDS Learning Portal (DLP) if they returned to the DLP site after completing these courses through CITI.
How will this affect my ability to track staff completion of GCP and HSP trainings?
Learners will need to provide their site coordinator with a copy of their course completion certification(s). A tool to track course completions for all site staff is under consideration for development though in the DAIDS Learning Portal.
CITI offers a training course titled “Human Subjects Research (HSR)”. Will this fulfill the DAIDS requirement for Human Subjects Protection (HSP) training?
Completion of the basic modules for the CITI HSR, Biomedical (Biomed) or Social-Behavioral-Educational (SBE) courses would meet DAIDS HSP training requirements. Both Biomed and SBE courses are offered as Comprehensive and Foundation versions. The DAIDS HSP training requirement can also be met by completing the ACRP HSP eLearning course available on the DAIDS Learning Portal.
