Simplifying communications between CTU/CRS laboratories, Network Laboratories, and other groups is a high priority for cross-network laboratory coordination. Many CTU/CRS laboratories are affiliated with multiple networks, which can make communication between these groups complicated. To address this communication issue, a Primary Network Laboratory (PNL) has been identified to serve as the primary point of contact for each CTU/CRS laboratory for laboratory-related issues.

The PNL is responsible for coordinating cross-network communications with labs.

The CTU/CRS laboratory is responsible for copying the PNL contact on all correspondence with SMILE, VQA, IQA, CPQA, FSTRF, SCHARP, and UK NEQAS on all lab-related issues that could affect multiple networks. These groups will also be asked to copy the appropriate PNL when they communicate with a CTU/CRS laboratory. There is no need to copy the PNL for study-/network-specific communications that do not affect other networks.

Due to changing needs and network-laboratory affiliations, PNL-laboratory affiliations are re-evaluated over time and sometimes changed.
